LUX Workshops
In conjunction with Lincoln Quiltfest 2010, LUX Center for the Arts is hosting workshops in screen printing and felting for fiber artists. A printable brochure and registration form is available to download here.
Screenprinting on Fabric
Explore do-it-yourself style screenprinting using paper and contact paper stencils as well as drawing fluid to create images on pre-stretched screens. Learn to mix ink colors, register repeating images, and print successfully on cotton or linen fabric. Learn to properly clean screens so that they can be reused for different images. Instructor will supply images and patterns students can work from. Taught by LUX artist-in-residence, Natalie Nelson.
Class# FIB-01 Friday, May 21 from 9am-1pm
Tuition: $45 (LUX members $40.50)
Materials Fee: $35 (includes a starter set of fabric inks, 8x10 pre-stretched printing screen, 1 yard ivory colored cotton fabric)
What to bring: Students should bring cotton t-shirts, pillowcases or additional cotton or linen yardage to print on. Students can also bring images, patterns or stencils that they are interested in transferring into screenprinted designs.

The Felted Image
Learn to make sheets of felted wool and explore methods of needle felting to create surface embellishments and imagery. Experiment with simple ways to dye and set color in felted wool. Instructor will supply images and patterns students can work from. Taught by LUX artist-in-residence, Annette Santomassimo.
Class# FIB-02 Saturday, May 22 from 9am-1pm
Tuition: $45 (LUX members $40.50)
Materials Fee: $35 (includes a half pound of neutral colored wool roving, a set of 6 felting needles, 12”x12” pre-made sheet of wool felt, felting foam)
What to bring: Students should bring thread, beads, ribbon and other small embellishments that can be ‘sewn’ or felted into the felt sheets. Students must also bring a clean, dry hand or bath-size towel. Students can also bring images, patterns or stencils that they are interested in transferring into felted designs.
